Aramis Hamer
is a Seattle visual artist. Her subject matter is inspired by spirituality, music, nature, and the complexities throughout the Black culture.
From a young age she always loved to create, but at the age of fifteen she discovered her love for acrylic paints. As a self-taught artist, Aramis has been able to showcase her large scale paintings at many different exhibitions in the greater Seattle area- including the Paramount Theater, Climate Pledge Arena, Bellevue Art Museum and more. In 2019, she was awarded the Cornish College of Arts Neddy Award in the painting category. Her work stands at the intersectionality of fine and pop art bringing color to traditional narratives.
“I am a visual artist where my primary medium is acrylic paint. I create portraits of women & nature on large canvas rolls using the full spectrum of the rainbow. I integrate imagery of strong, sensual goddesses and cosmic landscapes. This reflects my study of mythology & my fascination with realms beyond our understanding. My work challenges viewers to consider the boundaries around who we include in classic origin stories. In America, these legends have traditionally been told through Christianity, Eurocentrism, and the male perspective. I work to present questions around who we value and why by creating new narratives in my dreamscape paintings.”
